The best place for a soap to be advertised is in the soap weekly magazine. If my soap is going to be competing alongside the best soap operas, it has to be featured in the same magazine. I decided to create a front page for a soap opera magazine advertising my new soap opera.

I chose the character of Summer to be the face because:

  1. She is attractive

  2. It looks slightly 'Skins' which is a very popular teenage programme. It looks stylish with the 'Skins' naughty and bright style, however it still fits in with the typical looking soap magazine. I think that represents my soap, its a soap with a bit of an edge.

  3. It will target boys

  4. She is the main character therefore people should be able to see who they will be watching a lot.

Even though it is the first time the soap has been advertised in a magazine, I decided to include some free posters of the characters. I chose to use girls for the first week, and then I would mention inside that there would be free male posters in next weeks edition.

I decided girls first because I think it is a contrast to how Hollyoaks advertise their show with a lot of hot guys. I thought I would try the opposite. I wanted posters no matter which sex was featured anyway, just so I could show the public who was in the soap.

I also mentioned the page number, unlike the other soap operas. This was a sly technique in getting my soap the first look! It probably wouldn't be allowed to do that, but its an idea.

I definitely mentioned the channel it is on!

Everything about the image of Summer is great, I think it really represents the show. It has attitude, its troubled, its feisty, its fashionable and its youthful.

Even thought the name of the soap opera is Broadway Park, a lot of the scenes and filming will take place within the school Broadway High. I wanted to introduce the public to the school also, as if they are starting school also. Its almost like the viewers are moving school as well as Summer. “Welcome to Broadway High”. The only concern i have is that the public may get confused to what the title actually is, i think i would have to publish these posters a few weeks after the soap opera has been broadcast so Broadway High is acknowledged.
